In 1972 Porsche made the decision to change the position of the oil tank from the behind the right rear wheel to in front of it, changing weight distribution by offsetting some of the weight of the engine (positioned like any 911 over the rear axle) and in doing so generating improvements to handling when close to the limit.
Porsche installed the oil filler flap on the right rear quarter panel, but this was subsequently changed back for model year 1973. Porsche produced just 1430 of these 911s – making them a rare example of this iconic sports car.
This fine example has had over £50,000 spent over the past few years including a full restoration including a complete engine and gearbox rebuild by respected Porsche specialist Gantspeed Ltd at a cost of circa £25,000.The bare metal restoration was completed by Queenswell Coachworks in Forfar, with all invoices detailing the work carried out are in the history file.
In 2003 the car won the Autobahn best display Porsche award at Porsche Clubs concours event at Walton Hall and features and was displayed on the front cover of their summer 2003 magazine. (also included in the history file). Comes complete with a Porsche certificate of authenticity. The car has cover 59,000 km and has numerous MOT certificates and old tax discs in the history file.
